Alejandro Domínguez studies Economics and Government and Public Transformation at the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico. He has more than two years of experience as a research assistant to Dr. Roberto Ponce. He has participated in numerous projects with governments such as Naucalpan, Querétaro, and Nuevo León. He was instrumental in developing a mobility simulator for the Monterrey metropolitan area supported by UTTRI at the University of Toronto.

Alejandro completed a six-month internship at the United Nations Development Programme, focusing on experimentation and causal inference. He oversaw the evaluation of different policies that protected several indigenous rights in the country.

He then took on the role of Chief Analyst for the Municipal Treasury of Juárez, N.L., a municipality with a population of around half a million and significant financial challenges. In his current role, Alejandro leads three analysts in evaluating solutions to problems such as low tax revenues, mobility, housing, and services.

In 2023, Alejandro was President of the Economics Honour Society. During his tenure, attendance at 30 events increased by over 300%. These included notable participants such as a former secretary of state, city treasurer, and Centre for Future Cities director. Alejandro has also worked; he has taught more than 15 hours of introductory data science courses in R to seventh-semester economics students.

Alejandro has received four prestigious awards. He was part of a five-person team that took first place in the 2021 Infonavit Economic Award, receiving over $8,000 in endowments. He also won third place in the “Así Vamos” research prize and first place in the Capital Clash Datathon. In December 2023, he was voted “Economics Undergraduate of the Year” by his fellow peers.

Alejandro has participated in several academic conferences, such as the Tec Science Summit in April 2023 and the Social Sciences Student’s Research Conference in May 2023.

Alejandro is passionate about using data science to create and evaluate public policies. He remains particularly interested in the aspects of Urban Life and the automation of work, as he beliefs they both represent some of the most critical challenges of the century.
